George I, 16 Fleet Street
|These premises have been known by different names during their history:||FROM||TO||NAME|
George I ruled from 1714 to 1727. Before 1714 he was Duke of Brunswick-Luneberg and Elector of Hanover. His claim to the throne was that his mother was the daughter of Elizabeth of Bohemia, eldest daughter of James I.
This pub appears to have changed its name as George succeeded George on the throne. Previously it was just the GEORGE; from c1835 it was the GEORGE IV.|
