In 1756 four soldiers were billeted here. In a lease the Barley Mow is said to be next door to the Sun Tavern. By 1762 it had become the BLACKAMOOR'S HEAD. A mow was a stack, of barley in this case. The sign of the barley mow simply meant that beer was being sold. | |||
