Globe, 15-16 Well Street

Photo In 1756 two soldiers were billeted here. This property fronted on to Well Street and backed on to the Radford Brook with the Vulcan works on the opposite bank. However, it does not appear in any directories I have seen so it must have closed in the early 19th century.

The Globe has always been a popular pub name. It was at one time associated with Portugal and indicated that a tavern sold Portuguese wines. It is now associated with Shakespeare because of the Globe Theatre where his plays were performed during his lifetime. It is an easy symbol to represent and to recognise.
