Green Dragon, Foleshill Road
According to Jimmy Taylor in 1960, this was the former name of the PRINCE WILLIAM HENRY. However, the description of the location found in the newspaper (below) tells us otherwise.
On the 11th September 1829 the Coventry Herald reported John Carpenter and fifteen other victuallers being granted a new public house licence the day before. Barely a year later, however, we see the following....
On the 14th November 1830 the Green Dragon, "late in the occupation of John Carpenter, victualler" is up for auction in the Coventry Standard and described as "lately occupied as a Public House . . . at the place called the partings of the Heath, at Foleshill . . . and adjoining the Turnpike Road leading from Nuneaton to Coventry". This sign comes from the coat of arms of the Earls of Pembroke, although the dragon in the George and Dragon stories is usually green. | |||
