Heath Named after its locality, until 1910 this was the BRICKLAYERS ARMS. The Coventry Records Office holds the site deeds for this property from 1730 to 1934. In 1982 it was thought to be a genuine 1920s pub with 'a vast red brick building.... built on the scale of an aircraft hangar, it contains four pool tables, two fruit machines, an Asteroid video machine, a juke-box and a dart board' with plenty of room left. The function room was topped by a magnificent barrel ceiling with intricate plasterwork. There was an air of faded glory about the pub. In the 1990s this became a nursery!
A lady named Teresa has kindly written to add some memories of the Heath Hotel: When I was little, we lived in this pub called the Heath Hotel on Foleshill Road in Coventry and punk bands played there in the late 1970s, including The Automatics. This was before they became The Specials and turned 2 Tone. When they had their first hit, they visited and gave a copy of their hit single to my dad, as a thank you. My dad died in 1980 and we had to leave the pub. Soon after, I remember that the band members were on the news outside our pub being interviewed about where they started, there was Terry Hall and Neville Staple. I became friends with Terry Hall when My Space first came out. The pub is now a children's nursery, Wonder Years. This was a great band and I'm sad that Terry is no longer with us. My dad's name was Kenneth James Ashton and he was the landlord of the Heath Hotel from 1970 - 1980.
