New Phoenix Fletchamstead Although the Phoenix symbol was not added to the coat of arms until 1953, the Phoenix is listed in directories from 1939/40 to 1966. The pub opened in 1937 and became the HAPPY FRENCHMAN in 1969, the NEW PHOENIX in June 1972, then back to the PHOENIX. Since 2003 it has been the Wing Wah, a Chinese restaurant.
