Red Horse, 40 Warwick Lane / Hertford Street

Photo
Warwick Lane and Hertford Street 1905. The Red Horse was accessible by both of these streets.
Various directories and newspaper reports place this pub in either Warwick Lane or Hertford Street, and it appears that it must have had an entrance from both streets, giving rise to the inconsistency in addressing. In August 1858 William Cox put the Red Horse up for sale, and in December the same year was applying for insolvency, which was granted in February the following year. However, there was still a sale held at the Red Horse in November 1859, although it is not clear whether or not it was still a licensed premises.

The horse is one of the most popular animals for pub names.
