After the license received opposition in 1937, construction of the pub began in 1938, with the license finally being granted in March 1939 after being transferred from the Half Moon and Seven Stars Inn in Brinklow.
This is a massive pub on the main A45, a pre-war M&B roadhouse, yet despite its size the ceilings were low. It had a panelled lounge and basic bar and an endless procession of functions room and banqueting suites.
Around 1967 the Sportsman's Arms hosted the Casablanca Club, dances & discos (Coventry Evening Telegraph)
The Hobo Whatz On of July 1974 reported the CLOUDS DISCO being held there.
