This pub was opened on Thursday 19th July 1990 by Banks' and was their first pub in central Coventry. The town crier was the official, usually dressed in a robe, who made public proclamations, attracting attention with a bell and the cry 'Oyez, Oyez'. I believe this pub was named for a modern holder of the office.
