Foleshill, Carpenter's Lane (Hunt)

Address:Carpenter's Lane
Became:Angel
The Hunt family appear to have been bakers in Carpenter's Lane since at least the early 1800s, but by April 1850 John Hunt had opened the Angel beer-house on the premises, as the Coventry Standard reported his being charged with after-hours drinking with two customers. John Hunt died in 1854 and his wife, Olivia, appears to have taken over the beer-house business, and is still running it in the 1861 census. By the time of the 1971 census her son, John Croft Hunt, is running the bakery and acting as beer retailer. By 1881 he has a full publican's licence.
