In the 1841 census Henry Gamble was a coal dealer in Lockhurst Lane. By 1851 he was 50 and a butcher in Lockhurst Lane. In 1861 he was 60 and again described as a coal dealer in Lockhurst Lane. In 1871 he was 65 and a farmer in Lockhurst Lane.
In 1882 Thomas Gamble, who had owned the licensed house for 40 years, applied to renew the beer and ale 'off and on premises' license after his brother, Henry, to whom he had let the house since 1866, had allowed it to lapse the previous year. Thomas claimed it was out of spite, but the license was refused, taking into consideration other more suitable premises in the locality.
The premises were next door to the Wesleyan Chapel.
Recorded as a public house only once, in 1879. | |||
