In the 1841 census John Oughton, 36, is a ribbon weaver in Swanswell Field. In 1851 he is 46 and a ribbon weaver in Stoke. In 1861 he is 56 and a silk weaver in North Street. By 1871 he is 65 and a beer house keeper in North Street, the Rose and Woodbine Public House.
