Fob Watch, The Butts
These premises have been known by different names during their history: | FROM | TO | NAME |
1837 | 1981 | SUMMERLAND TAVERN
1981 | 1994 | FOB WATCH | |
1994 | 1999 | SUMMERLAND TAVERN
1999 | 2013 | BUTTS RETREAT
This name was a play on Flowers Original Bitter (FOB) and the fact that it is in the old watchmaking area of Spon End and Chapelfields.
Until 1981 this was the SUMMERLAND TAVERN, but after only a short period as the FOB WATCH it reverted to the SUMMERLAND TAVERN again in 1994.
In 1985 it was described as 'a pleasant pub . . . two separate drinking areas, one with a pool table'.
