Haunch of Venison, Warwick Lane

This is a sign normally found near a hunting forest. Venison is now thought of exclusively as deer-meat, but the word is derived from Latin venari 'to hunt', and was formerly applied to the flesh of any animal, boar, hare etc., which had been killed in the chase. This pub is thought to date to before 1800.
