Jolly Sailor, Red House Road, Paradise, Foleshill

This was a popular sign in coastal areas for obvious reasons, but what was the reason for it here? Was the landlord an ex-sailor, perhaps? In December 1848 James Stringer, who moved from the TURKS HEAD, Silver Street, was granted a new license for the Jolly Sailors, a house that had "been shut up for two months". Red House Road appears to have been the name for part of Stoney Stanton Road.
