Business opened in November 1836 with ARMSTRONG'S WINE AND SPIRIT VAULTS.
This name appears to have continued under Josiah Overton until he passed the license to Mark Showell in August 1843, when it was under the name the LIQUOR SHOP, more often referred to as the LIQUOR VAULTS, a name which continued with Charles Sumner jun. from 1860 to 1874 and then Charles Alexander until 1880.
From 1880 the pub's licenses were transferred under the common name of THE BOARD. | |||
