Quart and Bottle Inn, Spon Street

A quart is a quarter of a gallon or two pints. In the past beer was often ordered by the quart. A document of 1747 refers to the late Quart and Bottle pub. Three residences and two courts, which included the Quart and Bottle were demolished in 1887 for the making of Queen Victoria Road. It stood alongside St. Johns Church and is thought to have closed as a pub long before that date.
