The Wheel opened in 1959. In 1982 this was described as a typical M&B estate pub. It closed in 2013 with the licensee blaming the rent and price of beer for its demise.
With thanks to Stuart Forbes we can bring this pub up to date with the following:
The pub didn't close for good in January 2013, it reopened the following month under new licensees Ian Foulkes & Ivy Wanjiru. However, they only ran the pub until July 2013 when it was shut down once again.
In August 2013, new licensee Parminder 'Pops' Singh took over and started a very good Indian food offering. He ran the pub until 1st May 2014 and unfortunately had his agreement revoked by owner Enterprise Inns for breach of agreement. This was because stock was being purchased out of tie.
The pub was closed again until August 2014 when a holding company was brought in to run the pub while they searched for a new licensee. This was the case until Bill Quinn took over the lease on December 18th 2014. He is still the licensee at the pub to this day, and has brought stability back to this popular little local.
Usually associated with a nearby wheelwright's premises.
