White Bull Inn, Cross Cheaping

In 1692 a conduit in Cross Cheaping was removed from the middle of the street and set up near the end of West Orchard where there was formerly the gatehouse or the White Bull Inn. In 1700 one Hunton paid £10 rent for the White Bull to Bablake Boys' School. Cross Cheaping 1892

The Bull sign may refer to a papal bull, or a heraldic reference, or bull baiting, or farming, or drinking. But what is the significance of a white bull?
