This was used as a coaching inn and was used by carriers since 1720. By c1820 it had closed and become a farmhouse. Then in 1985 it re-opened as a 28-bed hotel with a 50-seat restaurant. The site has seen extensive development as a hotel and golf club and is now known as 'Windmill Village'.
Below you can find a copy of the 1813 license for the Windmill Inn/Hotel, given many years ago by the licensee of the time, John Harrhy.
This name probably marks the site or proximity of a former windmill. |
