Bug Black Bat When it first opened in December 1962 this was the CLIMAX. Ansells paid £45,000 to revamp this pub, and it re-opened as the BUG AND BLACK BAT on the 6th January 1984 - a name conjured up as a joke by a brewery employee - as a modern fun pub complete with loud music, flashing lights and garish decor. In 1994 the name had changed again, at a cost of £400,000, to ROSIE O'BRIENS PUMPHOUSE. The name is yet another silly marketing man's creation!
