Bug and Black Bat, 7 City Arcade
These premises have been known by different names during their history: | FROM | TO | NAME |
1962 | 1984 | CLIMAX | |
1984 | 1994 | BUG AND BLACK BAT
1994 | ROSIE O'BRIENS PUMPHOUSE
When it first opened in December 1962 this was the CLIMAX.
Ansells paid £45,000 to revamp this pub, and it re-opened as the BUG AND BLACK BAT on the 6th January 1984 - a name conjured up as a joke by a brewery employee - as a modern fun pub complete with loud music, flashing lights and garish decor.
In 1994 the name had changed again, at a cost of £400,000, to ROSIE O'BRIENS PUMPHOUSE. The name is yet another silly marketing man's creation!
