Lord Leigh, 29 Lower Ford Street

Alternative Addresses:65 Lower Ford Street
The Lords Leigh were the owners of Stoneleigh Abbey. In March 1869 the Right Hon, Lord Leigh gave the largest donation of £5. 5s towards the sufferers of a fire in Lower Ford Street - could this be the reason the pub was named after him? The address for this pub changed in the late 1890s when the street was re-numbered. For many years it had been at number 65, but when the numbering was altered from sequential to odds & evens it became number 29. The Lord Leigh closed on 26th November 1922.
