Canal Basin Coventry canal basin In 1779 whilst investigating the murder of John Newbold, Alderman Hewitt learnt that some suspects had been drinking in the Nags Head by the canal basin.


A 'nag' is a small riding horse or pony, and early pub signs showing a nag's head probably indicated that one could be hired from the inn.
