In 1772 the Old Rose and Crown in Bishop Street is To Let. Nat Alcock in Coventry Streets states that the ROSE was later the OLD ROSE AND CROWN.
When Robert Higgitt took the license of the Rose and Crown in November 1864, he soon changed the name to the CRYSTAL PALACE, which he began to advertise from March 1865. He soon had bigger plans though, and by 1867 he had opened the Sydenham Palace Hotel in Lower Ford Street. This sign indicates loyalty to the monarch and to England and has done so since the early seventeenth century. | |||
