White House, Warwick Road, Styvechale
These premises have been known by different names during their history: | FROM | TO | NAME |
WHITE HOUSE | |||
1818 | 1857 | WINDMILL | |
This was a nickname given to the WINDMILL in Styvechale, as it was painted white. Many sources and newspaper reports, in fact, referred to this pub as the White House. The lovely picture on the right shows the pub fronting Warwick Road, but in the background on the left can also be seen the Stivichall Arms in Earlsdon.
It is said to have been a favourite meeting place of watchmakers where dancing, coursing and cockfighting took place.
In the 1850 directory this pub is mistakenly called the White Horse, Warwick Road. | |||
