Windmill, 20-23 Spon Street
In its early days this pub was just known as the WINDMILL. However, after around 1842 directories and newspapers generally referred to it as the OLD WINDMILL, although for some decades the shortened Windmill was still being used, which was increasingly confusing because at 105-106 in the same street, nearer to Spon End, was the Windmill Inn. This name probably marks the site or proximity of a former windmill. | |||
