Ironmonger Row 1935 37 Cross Cheaping. When George Laxton took to the "Old-Established Wine & Spirit Stores" in June 1888, he advertised it as THE OLD DUN COW RIB ... Until recently carried on by Mr. B. Oldfield. This name persisted until closure in 1935 when much of the area was demolished the the Trinity Street development. The dun cow is a legendary beast from local stories, said to have lived on Dunsmore Heath, between Coventry and Rugby. It is said to have been gigantic and to have been slain by Guy of Warwick.
