Rainbow, 26 Jordan Well

These premises have been known by different names during their history:FROMTONAME
1835?BEERHOUSE
1840?RAINBOW
18411868COTTAGE AND RAINBOW
The Rainbow has been used since the seventeenth century. Its distinctive shape and colours make it a good visual sign whilst it may also refer to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. In 1835 see BEERHOUSE, Jordan Well, and COTTAGE AND RAINBOW.

The Cottage and Rainbow was on the near corner with Freeth Street, on the right, used as a bicycle shop by the time this photo was taken in the 1920s.
