Jordan Well c1920s
The Cottage and Rainbow was on the near corner with Freeth Street, on the right, used as a bicycle shop by the time this photo was taken in the 1920s.

The Rainbow has been used since the seventeenth century. Its distinctive shape and colours make it a good visual sign, while it may also refer to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
