Having previously been The BOARD, in 1874 after William Brennand became licensee. He had previously been at the Spotted Dog in the Bull Ring, and appears to have brought the name with him to Spon Street.
In 1875 John Rowley changed the name to Melbourne Gardens. Possibly something to do with bull baiting, or perhaps a reference to the three leopards on the coat of arms of the Sydney family. | |||
