The first mention of this pub is in the Coventry Herald of 30th June 1854, reporting "THAT newly-erected and most conveniently-arranged PUBLIC TAVERN, known by the Sign of the Swanswell Mill Tavern, situate at the corner of PETER-STREET, near to Swanswell, Coventry."
In November 1855 "Edward Wakelin, landlord of the Swanswell Mill Tavern, was charged with having his house open during the hours of Divine service on Sunday morning last."
By 1863 it had become the CITY MILL INNThis name refers to a local pool, the Swanswell, which was the source of much of the water used in ancient Coventry. | |||
